In these bulletin articles I have tried to point to only what the Bible says, and not to what I think.  We must speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent.  We must do things in Bible ways and call things by Bible names.  Anything that is less than, more than, or different from what the Bible says is false doctrine.  False doctrine will cause one to lose his soul in eternity. Praise Team

The "praise team" is one of the sinful innovations that some of the congregations of the Lord’s church have copied from the denominations.  Whenever the denominations come up with new innovations, some congregations of the churches of Christ are only one step behind them and are anxious to try anything they do.  It does not matter if it is not scriptural.  Just as the children of Israel in Samuel’s day wanted to be "like all the nations" around them (1 Samuel 8:5) with their sinful practices, today many congregations of the Lord’s church also want to be like all the denominations around them with their sinful practices.

Speak To Us Smooth Things

We are living in a "politically correct" world today.  Much of this "political correctness" has made its way into the Lord’s church just as it did in Isaiah’s day.  God says in Isaiah 30:9-10, "This is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear the law of the Lord; who say…do not prophesy to us right things; speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits."  Many people did not want to hear God’s truth then, and they do not want to hear it today.  Paul says that people "will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap to themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned to fables" (2 Timothy 4:3-4).  This is happening in the Lord’s church today.  There are those who are tickling people’s ears with their teaching and preaching in all the stories (fables) they tell as they strive to entertain the people.

The Rich Man and Lazarus

Our Lord, in trying to get us to go to Heaven and to warn us to not go to Hell, gives a true account of what happened to two men in Luke 16:19-31.  In verses 19-21 Jesus says there was a "certain rich man who fared sumptuously every day" and "there was a certain beggar named Lazarus full of sores who the dogs came and licked his sores".  These are not fictitious characters but were "certain" people.  Satan would like for us to reason Hell out of existence.  There are those today who falsely teach that there is not going to be a Hell.

What Is Hell Like

People very seldom consider what it will be like to be lost in Hell.  Jesus taught more on Hell than He did on any other subject.  Hell is something Satan would like for us to forget about.  Satan would like for us to reason Hell out of existence.  Death is not the supreme tragedy because there is life after death.  Everyone will continue to live either in Heaven or Hell after this life is over.  But to stand before the Lord in judgment and to hear Him say, "Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels" (Matthew 25:41) will be the supreme tragedy.  The tragedy of tragedies is a person lost in Hell.

Speaking In Tongues

Many in the religious world today are obsessed with "speaking in tongues".  According to the Bible, one of the miracles of the first century was the miraculous speaking in understandable foreign languages, which the speaker had never learned.  In Acts chapter 2, on the Day of Pentecost only the twelve apostles could miraculously and intelligibly speak the 16 different foreign languages listed there in Acts 2:9-11 as they communicated with the Jews at Jerusalem who had come there from all over the known world.  Many of these Jews only spoke the language of the country from which they came.  Acts 2:6 says the people "were confused because everyone heard them speak in his own language".  This was not the "jibberish" that is passed off today as "speaking in tongues".  The Jews knew that the twelve apostles were not very learned because they said in Acts 2:7, "Look are not all these who speak Galileans?"  The people were amazed because the twelve unlearned Galilean apostles could fluently speak in all these different foreign languages which they had never learned.  This was a miracle.

Our Inheritance In Heaven

Today, many people fail to recognize that the inheritance in Heaven is far more valuable than all the riches in the world.  They fail to realize its worth.  Our Lord says in Matthew 16:26, "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?  Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?"  Our Lord also says, "The kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys the field.  Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who when he had found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had and bought it" (Matthew 13:44-46).  We must spare no expense or effort in our life to obtain the inheritance of Heaven.

We Must Put Away Lying

One of the more common sins that is going to cause many people to be lost is the sin of lying.  Because of this Ephesians 4:25 says, "Therefore, put away lying, let each one speak truth with his neighbor."  If we tell a lie it is a little lie, but if someone else tells a lie it is a big lie.  There are no little lies or big lies, but as far as God is concerned, a lie is a lie.  Proverbs 6:16-19 says, "These six things the Lord hates, yes seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, a false witness who speaks lies."

Beware Of False Teachers

Our Lord warns us of false teachers in Matthew 7:15, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves."  They will appear to be godly, but they are not.  "For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14).  What makes false teachers so dangerous to our souls, is their appearing to be righteous.  "For many false prophets have gone out into the world" (1 John 4:1).  We have many false teachers today with all of their differing false denominational doctrines.  We also read in Acts 20:30, "Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves."  False teachers are becoming more prevalent within the churches of Christ with the apostasy that is now occurring.  2 Peter 2:1 says, "there will be false prophets among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies."  Notice they do it secretly and people are unaware of what is happening.  They are destructive because of all of the souls that will be lost.

The Deceitfulness Of Sin

Sin is very deceitful, alluring, and ensnaring.  Hebrews 3:13 says that we are to "Exhort one another daily…lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."  With many people sin is first abhorred, then as people become more comfortable with it, sin is tolerated, and then it is embraced.  But why is sin so openly embraced by so many?  It is because they have not been properly taught the word of God.  People, who become so involved in sin, do not want to listen or receive God’s word.  People, because of sin become "past feeling" (Ephesians 5:19), because they have "their conscience seared with a hot iron" (1 Timothy 4:2).  As the morality level of this nation declines, the church is also affected and has become more comfortable with sin.  As Paul says in 2 Timothy 3:13, "Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse."  Satan wants us to become complacent with sin so he can help us to be lost with him in the burning fires of a real Hell.

America’s Continuing Holocaust

January 22, 1973 (Roe v. Wade) is the darkest day in the history of the United States.  On this day the U.S. Supreme Court made the unconstitutional ruling that killing an unborn baby is an act protected by the Constitution of the United States.  It ruled that any woman who wants to kill her alive but unborn baby may do so whenever and however she decides.  Since then 23% of all babies in this country are killed before they ever see the light of day.  The total of murdered babies in the USA since l973 is 46 million and climbing.
